Well I us...</title><content type='html'>Local solution instead of perfect match? Well I used to think that so much was common knowledge... I mean, think for a second of the possibilities, 6+ billion people on the Earth, so three billions of each sex, give or take 50 millions (http://www.geohive.com/earth/pop_gender.aspx). Take out the ones unsuitable to your sexual orientation and the average heterosexual person has still close to three billions possible perfect matches to evaluate, under the assumptions that a) the perfect match exists and b) your significant other is still alive or not younger than the legal age (depends on the country but it's still abig assumption). Now have a go at computing the probability that, under the assumption of uniform distribution, in the first 10 to 20 relationships that you establish you find THE perfect match. My probability formulas are old and rusty but I can recognize a 0 when I see one :) it's not impossible, it COULD happen therefore at some point in the history of mankind it happened or it will happen, but TO YOU? or TO ME? Unlikely. The great majority is left with the best match they can find for themselves, a local optimum if you're lucky :) but on the other hand, looking for THE perfect match would lead you to forever chasing perfect happiness, and life is what happens while you're busy making other plans (sorry don't have a good citation for this)... IOW, I guess living with a local optimum, or being the local optimum someone lives with, is not that bad a deal ;)</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/8832724/5215148960607236812/comments/default/7912797885957085871'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/8832724/5215148960607236812/comments/default/7912797885957085871'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://blog.luigiiannone.com/2009/01/love-and-illuminism.html?showComment=1233097860000#c7912797885957085871' title=''/><author><name>Ignazio</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/18356477969822497428</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='OpenSocialUserId' value='18005921759692288138'/><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='32' height='31' src='http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PGB6ZQ6HfPc/SRiszWesgNI/AAAAAAAAACA/3yRhSVpOITw/S220/io.jpg'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://blog.luigiiannone.com/2009/01/love-and-illuminism.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8832724.post-5215148960607236812' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/8832724/posts/default/5215148960607236812' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-120617162'/></entry></feed>
