:) Actually I like getting something like a candle or nothing at weddings. Better than the usual useless and expensive stuff, which in my opinion (not really humble) is as wasteful as the huge wedding lunches we're used to. The only ones really happy are the old aunts and the guys selling the stuff to you...

More to the point, why should donating to a charity a sacrifice? Priests will tell you that you should make sacrifices and all that sort of crap for christmas, for easter and each time they clap their hands, but you are supposed to sacrifice something for a higher purpose, i.e., sacrifice the new car to pay for your children's university, or to atone for something bad you've done (original sin anyone?), which would be what THEY want us to believe we need to do (yes THEY as in paranoid mode, I am paranoid, but am I being paranoid enough? ;) ). I think a donation needs not be a sacrifice, it can just be a small bit of some cash you can spare. Got any spare change, mate? that sort of stuff...
